Reviews  By Ben F from Buffalo Grove, IL Posted Mar 13, 2017 ARA remodeled our kitchen, and it has great “curb appeal” and looks lovely to our guests (who don’t look too closely). Working with our designer was a pleasure. He was very concerned with helping us figure out the challenges with our former kitchen and addressing them in our new design, and helped guide us through the extensive choices around cabinets, counters, etc. But ARA contracts out the actual installation work (cabinets, counters, floors, electrical, plumbing), and though the installers were generally friendly, I would never use this company again for remodeling work. --The plumber mis-piped the sink in the powder room, with the hot and cold water reversed in the tap. --The electrician had to come back to address some issues that caused us to fail the inspection after the project was complete. --There are clear “fit and finish” issues in the kitchen where cabinet trim and such do not meet well and require filling. --Though our contract indicated that the kitchen would be left “paint ready”. Our painter was appalled by the state of the kitchen . He estimated that it took him two full days to get the kitchen to the point where in fact it was ready for him to paint, and informed us that he would never accept a job following ARA. --Most disappointing, there are areas where the floor was incorrectly finished (gaps in the gloss), and many areas where the floor was clearly not correctly/completely stained. I pointed out many of these defects immediately, and was regularly told by the project foreman (an ARA employee) that they would be easy to take care of “later” or that I would never notice them once the floor was done. Neither turned out to be the case; some could not be fixed later without redoing the whole floor (tearing out cabinets, etc.). Our foreman’s attitude appeared to be “I am the professional, just leave me alone and don’t ask questions.” At one point, when I was showing him defects in the floor (including dirt finished into the top coat and areas not stained) he threatened to simply walk off the job and not return should I continue to raise the issue. I wrote to the owner, and received no reply. They clearly do not stand by their work during the project, or after.
